"Yeah, I can hang out," Draco responsed. He wasn't too concerned on making it in time for tea. Remus didn't seem to stress it. He would see what was going on before debating if it was worth the effort.
It was nice to simply joke around and not have to worry about an image.
"So, tell us about yourself?" Will asked, studying Draco before putting an arm around his girlfriend. The complex of a guy around another good looking man, but he didn't seem aggressive about it. "Going to University?"
"Have a job?" Lucy questioned in turn, peering up from her phone, curious.
"What do you like to do?" Ed asked at nearly the same time, leaning back on his arms again with a tilted head.
That was a lot of questions to think about and answer. He hadn't really expected for anyone to really show interest. This forced him to try to quickly come up with some decent answers that he could follow with.
He was however amused at Will being more territorial around his girlfriend. Draco knew the feeling well although it was more Pansy being territorial verses him being territorial. Was he now a threat to the happy couple? Will didn't have much to worry about. With Lucy being a Muggle there was no way he was going to date her...even though she was pretty.
"I'm actually planning on going into the medical field. I've been looking at various schools, but haven't decided yet." Draco replied. "As for no jobs...none yet no real need to."
As for what he liked to do...that was a tough one. "I used to play the piano a lot. But it's been a while since I played." He had only learned because his father used to play it a lot and it got a chance to spend time with him. He stopped when his father stopped. Pansy was the only one who knew about this.
"Have you already gone through University?" Lucy sounded surprised, confused, looking between her friends. Draco seemed so young!
"You a genius?" Now Will seemed more interested, brows up. The others were leaning in, clearly curious. How could someone who wanted to go into the medical field be looking for a job already?
"I think I may have said something wrong here." Draco quickly stated and raised an eyebrow more out of frustration with himself. "I'm in the process of looking to go to a university. I want to study in the medical field. I'm not in it yet. I have quite a while to go before I can even be in it."
Genius no...but natural at a lot of things yes. He picked up things quickly especially if it interested him. His own laziness was often his weakness.
"Oh!" Came from several of them, but Jake was leaning back and listening with interest in his eyes. "That makes more sense," Lucy added with a nod, smiling. "Any University you're looking to go to?"
"Maybe around here?" Jake said with a tone of something. ...Hopefulness?
Draco relaxed again, once he saw they understood everything. "None in particular right now. I can always look around here as an option."
Highly doubtful. The idea of learning from across the pond was more appealing and accessible. At least for now the Malfoy name meant nothing to the Muggles he was with. But if they went around mentioning the name...they might end up learning a few things.
"Have any of you figured out what University you were interested in or field?" He questioned, curious to hear what they had to say.
That prompted a whole discussion about the different Universities they would be going to coming up in the Fall, with Will and Lucy looking a little unhappy because they would be going to two different ones, while Ed was staying local. Jake, however, only shrugged.
"Haven't found the right thing for me yet. It just feels... you know, like there's something more out there. Like I just need to find it and my place in the world." Jake grinned, but Lucy rolled her eyes at him.
"That's because you're never going to get anywhere."
"In other words you're saying that you aren't ready to leave," Draco commented, amused. He was surprised to hear that most were leaving the area. Ed being the only one staying. Then he turned to Will and Lucy.
"How come you aren't going to the same one? Neither have the majors you want?"
It made him think if the war hadn't happened if he would still be with Pansy and the of his gang. Of if they would have all moved on.
Lucy did not look happy about her response. "He wants to go to a technical school instead of a proper University. I think it's silly."
"Because I want a good job?" Will rolled his eyes.
Jake made the hand wave at the throat towards Draco that suggested this was NOT a good topic to bring up.
"It's not about leaving or not," Jake said quickly to try and cover up the awkwardness better the couple. "It's about finding the right thing, you know? About finding something..."
"More, we know, we know," Ed's tone suggested he was a bit sick of hearing this. He shook his head, looking to Draco. "I'm pretty sure that Jake's waiting to stumble onto a fairytail world with castles and fairies and shit."
"...that's what little girls believe," Will added, ignoring the look Lucy was giving him.
Jake, though, just laughed it off with a bit of a shrug. "Hey, so sue me for hoping for more. I know that someday, I'll find the right place for me. Not real sure where, just yet."
...Draco gave an apologetic smile in Jake's direction. He didn't realize that this was going to spell trouble...and knew now not to go in that direction in the future.
Oh if only they knew how much was exactly out there... Ed's comment earned a smirk. He wondered what Jake would actually do if he did discover their hidden world.
These type of Muggles were often dangerous. They were so open to the idea and their desire to prove that it exists that it could spell trouble for their world. He remembered vaguely about learning this in school. For now, he would keep it in the back of his mind. Jake didn't appear to be alarming.
"Eh, it makes no difference to me what's out there." Draco commented with a shrug. "People can believe what they want."
"Don't tell me you're like the rest of them!" Jake laughed a little, but he was almost pouting after though it was clearly a bit of a teasing kind. "They all think I'm crazy."
"You are," all three of the friends said together, which caused all four to laugh together. Jake was very clearly used to it all.
"Some friends." Mock-sniff, then he nudged Ed. "Why don't we go back to your place and play something? Rock Band??"
Ed gave a bit of a shrug and hauled himself up. "Sure. Stop at the shop first for snacks?"
"What about you?" Jake asked as he looked to Draco, raising a brow. "Come back with us?"
"Sure, I got a couple of hours to kill before I need to return. I warn you now that I know nothing about video games," Draco replied, holding his hands up in defense. This was bound to cause a reaction and Draco wasn't sure how he was going to answer their questions. But then he didn't have a phone...and Jake had been okay with that.
"I can hope you put up with my stupid questions and mistakes."
Luckily, even though the others looked confused, Jake came to Draco's rescue. "His parents are those weird hippie types. No electronics, they'll brainwash our kids or destroy the culture or something like that. Crazy types- no offense," he quickly finished up with a look of apology to Draco. The others just grunted or made little sounds of 'oh' and Ed mentioned knowing someone like that but it was a war veteran.
"So, forgiven already, let's go!" Jake hopped up to stand next to Ed, stretching out his neck.
Draco gave a nod of thanks for not having to explain it again. He got up and quickly dusted off his clothes and straightened them out. Curiously, he followed Jake and his friends.
He just had to make it back at a decent time so he can spend some time with Remus. He knew the next few days weren't going to be pleasant for him.
It would be quite the experience for someone who had never been in an entirely Muggle house before. Ed led his friends in, calling out to his mum that he had friends over and an answering call from somewhere deeper in the home. Everyone plopped around the living room with the kind of ease of people who had been here many times, except for Ed who started dragging out what looked a bit like instruments except without strings and perhaps only half-made.
Jake looked to Draco and gave a grin. "If you like music," since Draco had mentioned playing piano at some point in his life, "you'll like this game. Everyone can have their own difficulty so don't feel bad that Ed and me'll pick hard stuff. Lucy's not great at it either and Will can only play the drums." The latter sentence was shot over to his friends, making Lucy stick out her tongue at him.
"Excuse me, Will can rock the drums I think is what you should be saying," Will said with a smirk, grabbing the wooden drumsticks and giving them a twirl.
"Let me watch first to see how this goes and then I can give it a try," Draco commented. He was actually excited to try this out. At the same time he was distracted with looking about as discreetly as possible. The place looked a lot like Remus's place but with out any magical stuff mixed in.
When they did start to play Draco focused on the kids playing and tried to understand what they did to replicate the music.
Using the fake instruments (pay attention in Muggle Studies long enough to know about plastic properly, Draco?) they were hitting buttons or the drum pads in time to the dots moving on the screen. Not difficult in concept but...
After a song or two, in which Lucy proved to have a very lovely voice, Jake looked back to Draco and grinned. "Ready to give it a shot?" He waggled his guitar almost suggestively which made Ed laugh and mimic it back towards his friend with the other guitar.
So crude, Draco shook his head somewhat amused. "Fine, hand it over," Draco replied. He was quite surprised to find how light the fake instrument was. The plastic material felt strange.
It certainly seemed easy enough, but Draco found himself to be rather clumsy on his first round. With his second attempt it went smoother. There was still plenty of mistakes, but not as many as his first try. He was beginning to understand how it worked and find the rhythm to it.
"Look at that, he's a natural!" Jake said after Draco finished his second song (okay, it was on easy but still) with higher than an 80%. He grinned and patted Draco on the shoulder, then nudged Lucy with his elbow. "Let me have a turn."
"...You're going to put Draco through that already? Even on Easy it's rough-" Will said, looking up and back from his seat at the drums.
"Ah, he'll manage! It's my favorite!" As he was flicking through the songs, and landed on 'Through Fire and Flames'. "You know the song, Draco?"
80% was better then what he was expecting. Even if it was on easy. This was his first time touching a video game. Draco shook his head no. "Outside of classical music...I'm afraid I don't really listen to a lot of music. So this is all new for me. I'm just treating this as reading new sheet music."
Granted he did know some music outside of classical...bands that Muggles wouldn't know. It would be no good to bring that up. At least with classical music it really didn't change much.
Jake's brows went up, a little surprised at that. Couldn't believe how restricted Draco's home life had been. It was obvious the others were waiting for him to hit go, but he looked a bit uncertain. "...If you're not really keen on rock, I mean, you don't have to play...?" Was it because Draco didn't like anything but classical, or he just wasn't exposed to it?
If only Jake knew...He was heavily restricted on so much. Coming to live with Remus and Tonks had been a huge eye opener for him. The fact, he was standing in a Muggle household and playing a Muggle game...he was breaking so many rules.
"Don't change the music because of me. I still wouldn't mind playing it." Draco urged. "I can adjust."
"If you're sure?" Jake said, then his concern turned into a grin. "Awesome." So he hit start, looking excited.
Well, Will hadn't lied. It was ridiculously hard on the guitar even on easy, and Draco more than likely would fail out and need to be saved. Jake, though, proved he could sing wickedly along, clearly enjoying himself on the fast-paced lyrics.
Draco couldn't help but grin at the challenge. He failed horribly, yet it was still fun. He did find that he enjoyed the fast paced song verses the others. Maybe some point he would like to hear the actual version to the song.
"And this was easy?" Draco replied with a sheepish grin. At least he wasn't doing any of the singing. He would have failed miserably on all of them.
