"Sorry," he said, meaning it honestly. "But you're here, doing things outside of them. I know what it's like to come from a messy family, but... What can you do other than keep going? Do your parents love you? That's the most important thing for now, even if it's a mess. If something happens, you'll have somewhere to go. Somewhere now you don't have to lie, either. ...Pretty sure I need to meet your relatives now, too."

"No need to apologize. I know you didn't mean it as an insult." Draco replied. He paused as he thought on the rest of Jake's questions. His parents loved him, that much he knew...but the question was could they accept him dating a guy let alone a Muggle? Those were two very hard things to accept for them.

"You do...but I need to talk to them first. They don't know any of this. All they know is I've made new friends... and never went into detail. It's going to be hard for them to accept that I'm friends with Muggles let alone dating one. Then the other factor they have to swallow is that I'm dating a guy. I need to see how they're going to react before I bring you with me. I'll admit I'm really nervous of bringing this up to them..."

"...I told you, you don't have to tell them." Jake gave a small, if somewhat sad, smile. "If they have issues with all of that stuff, at worst, you can let them know you became friends with me. ...The rest well, that's our own thing, isn't it? No one else has to know." It wasn't something he wanted to keep a secret, but he of all people knew how that felt to have to deal with.

"I know...but I feel that I should come out and tell them. I would rather them hear it from me...then from someone else." Draco replied in a nervous tone and gave a weak smile. "Not to mention I think my mother would figure something's up and drag it out of me. And that would not go well."

"If she's anything like you, yes she will," Jake said dryly, considering that was exactly what Draco had done earlier to him. He leaned forward on his forearms, thinking about it. "Is it better to do it all at once, or maybe... introduce me to them? So they can learn to deal with my being a Muggle - seriously is that an insult to you guys and I'm insulting myself? - before they- ah- learn more?"

The comment on his mother made Draco blush. It was true. "We are similar in many ways...Only she can be a lot more scarier.... think that would be a wiser idea...Just let them get to know you first before throwing everything at once to them. This would be the first obstacle."

He reached out and grabbed Jake's hand. "I don't think this is an insult at all. They're going to have to learn to accept things are changing."

"Moms are always scary," Jake agreed, even though he thought of his dad as more frightening than his mother, but it all was a subject he never was terribly keen to discus. He turned his hand over to lace with Draco, chuckling quietly. "I only meant the word 'Muggle', but no, this is definitely not insulting. ...I told you, fate brought us together on purpose, no matter where this goes."

He wanted to learn as much as he could about this world just beyond what he could see, so badly. It seemed incredible, everything he might have ever dreamed of. Yet... he knew Draco had his plans, which meant that Draco very well could choose to leave and that would be the end of this most likely. Setting himself up to be hurt, but worth it.

His dad could be scary...but that only seemed to be directed at those who hurt or threatened his family. It was always his mother that people feared more when they got to know the Malfoys.

"Oh...I don't think 'Muggle' was meant to be an insult...there are far worse terms to use. I think each culture has a different term they use." Draco explained.

If only Draco could ensure Jake that he wasn't going to leave Jake's side any time soon...even with his own agenda. A Malfoy was always loyal to those they cared about.

He'd seen it, though. People who cared about each other go to different places and ... that was it. They don't see each other, get too busy, and Draco was going places. He was a wizard, for goodness' sake! That was unbelievable! How could this last if their worlds weren't even supposed to intermingle, never mind that Draco would leave. But in a way, Jake didn't care. This was everything he could have hoped for. He cared for Draco, was cared for in return. Good relationship, even if strange.

"Muggle, then." He laughed a little, still amazed at it all. "What was that.. white fox you cast earlier, anyway? An illusion?" It had been oddly cute.

Draco gave a small smile at the mention of his fox. He was proud of that spell as it had separated him from his parents. It also helped save him. "It's called a patronus charm. It's a shield used to protect you or others against dark creatures. And to a degree they can be used to send messages. The charm is different for every witch and wizard as it reveals a little bit of who you are personality wise.

However... the patronus charm is also light magic...good magic. Those who use the dark arts can't use the patronus charm due to the fact that in order to use the charm you need to use a strong happy memory to conjure it. Even for those who do use light magic it's a difficult charm to produce."

"A fox, eh?" Jake leaned back, thinking about it, before he laughed quietly. "I can see you as a fox, but I would have thought it'd be a dragon." Oh it was a little tease and it showed in Jake's eyes before he scratched his nose. "Quick thinking, fast, a bit roguish? Oh, I can see you as a fox, yes. Knowing me, I'd end up with something like Lucky."

Who lifted his head from nearby, ears perking up.

"It may be my namesake, but personality wise I don't know." Draco admitted even though he knew Jake was teasing. Then he paused thinking about it for a bit.

"I can see you having something like Lucky for yours." Was he teasing it was hard to tell. He noticed that as he got to know more of Jake and spend time with Lucky how similar the two were in personality.

"Although in some cultures foxes represent the afterlife and it being a messenger. And in a lot of cultures it says the fox is often a trickster. It's rather interesting to think about what the animal can mean."

"A little more mystical than a dog, though. Even if he's a good dog." Lucky knew that time for sure he was being spoken about and came over to get petted, tail wagging. Jake lifted his eyes back to Draco with a smile. "...the idea that magic's real... It's something I've always dreamed of as a kid, but you never think it's real. Just a dream. A wish." He rubbed the back of his head with a laugh. "Silly, I guess."

That smile was always got Draco to smile in return. It was almost automatic now. He reached over to pet Lucky as well. "I suppose it is fate then that we met," Draco replied.

"I don't know if I'm exactly a good example for you as what to expect from my world. But there are quite a few people out there that do know about our world and they don't have magic either. Usually they know because someone in their family has magical abilities. Or they married someone who was a witch or wizard."

"Huh. So there are Muggles in the know." He looked thoughtful about it as his hand dropped to wrap around his tea. He closed his eyes, then suddenly laughed. "It's still so much. I have a million questions but no idea where to start." He thought about it, then decided curiously, "can anyone cast magic?"

"You have to be born with magic in order to cast magic....although there are cases where people who have some magical abilities, but not enough to be a witch or wizard. Even if they were taught they are never strong enough and most tend to fail at a lot the more simple spells. The term for them isn't very flattering. They're called squibs."

Draco carefully worded. Before he met Jake, he didn't think nothing of it. Squibs, Muggles, Half-blood, Mudblood, etc...but when he saw how Jake felt somewhat insulted by the term he tried to be more careful. That along showed he was trying to be more considerate and was changing.

At the same time he wasn't too sure what Jake meant by the question since it was so broad.

He just wasn't sure if Muggle was an insult or just a word. With no context, it was something he had to ask to learn. Jake's questions were ones he couldn't help. Things he just needed to know. "What's considered a simple spell then? That Patronus charm doesn't sound terribly simple." He peered curiously. "How do you even know if you're born with it?"

"For me it was different, but from what I heard from other students alot of them could do thinks they had no control of. Often it was affected by their emotions and what was going on at the time. Some learn to control it better, but most don't till they're in school. At the age of eleven we would get a letter inviting us to the school to learn magic. That's when its usuallt confirmed. Again, I'm not the best to explain. Everything I'm saying is what I heard other students say."

He thought a minute and then grabbing a utensil he placed it in the middle of the table. With a flourish of his wand and saying the spell (mainly so Jake could hear it) he had the utensil floating in the air. "We usuallt use a feather. This spell taught us more how to use our wand."

Jake grinned even with that simple spell, reaching to gently run his hand over and beneath it. "Nothing to you but it's amazing for me. I can't even imagine..." He sat back, running the same hand through his hair. "Sucks to not have magic, but bullocks to not know about it at all. Heh, makes my nickname for you better." Amused from the sound of it, but hard to tell otherwise.

Then a thought occurred to him. "He wasn't going for a knife." A breath out. "That big goon that tried to go after you. He was going for a wand."

"You guys have all that crazy tech going on. I don't think I will understand half of it." Draco pointed out. "As for the nickname you're the only one who can use it."

He gave a nod in response to Jake's statement. "You almost saw a duel start. And with that group it woukd have been dark art and deadly, had I not talked them down. They will be back though."

"Well together, we'll be able to manage in either world with the other cluelessly trying to learn." That was definitely a joke as much as it was serious, but Jake gave one of his smiles to follow. "Though I'll be honest, I know they aren't allowed in this country, but aren't any of you worried about someone with a gun? I can't imagine being fast enough with a wand to stop a bullet."

Since he'd said it would be a duel and all.

"That's a good question. I don't think our magic is strong enough to stop something like that... We can probably heal the wounds from them if given time. It makes me wonder if the American wizards have devised a method to protect themselves. I don't know what I would do if a gun was pulled on me." Draco admitted with some fear in his voice.

"Okay bad thought, sorry mate." Next topic. "So what happens if those goons show up again? I know what they are now but... not about to drag you down if hell breaks loose." He didn't like the notion he couldn't protect Draco. A fist fight, sure. Not... this.

"You run when I say to run and you go get the Lupins. Hopefully they're home if something like that were to happen. I will do what I can to protect you.

The thing that concerns me the most is if they start go out of their way to cause you trouble. Your police laws won't work and I don't know how helpful my people will be because of your association with me." Draco frowned as he tried to figure out some kind of back up plans.

Jake thought about it, then started holding up fingers. "First things first, I need to meet your relatives. The Lupins. That way if something goes wrong, someone knows I'm not insane. If your family is the issue, I go through the Lupins unless everyone hates them, too? Then the association doesn't happen. And I can lie well if I have to. I just got wrangled into this mess by these idiots who decided to get me involved. Which is mostly true, anyway. ...Long as you're okay, Dragon. That's your world and I don't want it any more messed up. Though I'd like whatever way we decide to get them in as much trouble as possible."
