"So what are your relatives like? No offense or anything, honestly, but they don't exactly seem the type you've been telling me your parents are like." Given the sort of house the Lupins lived in, after all, plus they took Draco in. Though it was a 'vacation', wasn't it? A summer vacation, or perhaps a 'vacation' away from the chaos?

"How are they related to you? ...Er, if you don't mind me asking?" Jake looked sheepish as he realized that it could be quite a rude question, with how everything was with Draco and his family.

"Yeah, they're quite the opposite from my folks," Draco replied amused. "I suppose some I need to explain a few things, but at the same time you'll see how stubborn my folks can be.

My mother had two sisters. One she remained in contact with the other she didn't. She had married someone that her family didn't approve of and hadn't spoken to her since. She had a daughter who goes by the name of Tonks... Say her actual name she gets mad. That makes Tonks my cousin. We never met till recently. I still have yet to meet her mother--my aunt.

Her husband Remus, is the one who suggested I come and stay here and it took a lot of convincing from Tonks to accept me. She's starting to accept me, but because of what my parents have done and also how my mother treated her mother...it's taking time.

They also have a baby named Teddy who just recently started to crawl."

Draco carefully explained. This was actually the easier part to explain.

So a maternal Aunt and an Uncle-in-Law. That wasn't too rough. Still, he could understand how it mostly came together. "I'm glad they were willing to give you the chance, though, because I'm pretty sure you're doing better here than you were back home." He gave a small, encouraging smile. Though their names... Draco's whole family seemed to favor odd names.

"Huh, Remus... like Romulus and Remus. And he married into the family? Boy, he picked the right one!" Jack grinned a little more. "The family that names their son after a dragon." From the teasing tone, he knew it wasn't after the movie; he remembered it was from the constellation but couldn't help the tease.

"Hey, at least our names are more unique and creative." Draco replied and gave a playful shove with his shoulder. Muggles tended to have such simplistic names.

"I should also point out that my relatives tend to work odd hours depending on when their job needs them. They work for the military and rarely discuss anything connected with it. Best not to bring it up." It wasn't the military, but it was close to it. They put in a lot of work to keep the wizards and muggles safe.

Jake laughed, nodding. "I'll give you that. It's better than people who pick names like, John Jacob the Fifth and stuff like that." The sort of name he'd expect from people like Draco's family, usually, but still! Not a really great thought.

"Promise I won't go bugging them about it." Sounded a bit like they were involved with the sort of work that couldn't be discussed by every day folk and hey, sure, he wasn't about to go prodding into that. Not his business if they're doing that kind of work. "Does it mean you're ending up home alone a lot?"

He made a face at the name. "That's horrible."

Draco gave a nod in appreciation. "Right now they've been home, but I'm sure there will be times where neither will be around much. Usually Teddy will go to his grandmothers for those times. But I've also been learning how to help take care of him so they can get things done or have time away."

He couldn't help but smirk at at Jake asking if he would be home alone a lot. If that wasn't a hint to spend more time.

Hey, that wasn't true! He had a whole apartment to drag Draco back to if he wanted... okay yes he'd like to spend more time around Draco, but his thoughts were more in the category of hoping Draco wasn't just there alone half the time!

"I can sympathize with them on the whole odd hours thing. How's it been learning to care for a kid? Always liked them." Jake smiled at the thought, peering over curiously.

It didn't bother Draco if he was alone or not. He was used to it. There were times when his parents had trips and he was often alone in the mannor save the house elves. One by one they had eventually aged too much to do anything and were let go. Including the one that had helped raise him. Soon they were only left with crazy Dobby whom Harry had freed.

"I haven't had a lot of practice taking care of babies. Yesterday was the first time I was left alone with Teddy for a few hours. I think I was lucky he wasn't too fussy." Draco admitted. It was good to note that Jake liked children.

"Sounds like a pretty easy baby," Jake said thoughtfully, turning down a block and heading across the street. "I thought about doing stuff with kids for a while, but... no, not quite what I'm looking for." He looked to Draco and gave a knowing grin. "Did you manage without any accidents with-- Teddy, you said his name was? That's actually the most normal name among you lot."

"So far. I haven't babysat him for a full day to really tell. For the most part he was content playing with his toys. I did have to give him his bottle and change him," Draco replied making a slight face to the statement. "If he's anything like his father trouble is going to find him quickly. He can be a prankster."

"What got you thinking of taking care of a bunch of kids? Im not sure I could do that."

"Well look at that, you're well on your way if you've had to do that much so far!" Jake grinned even more before he laughed. "So you mean this little boy might be as much trouble as you?" With a nudging elbow, a gentle tease. Their growing physical affection was definitely something he enjoyed and it seemed to draw Draco out more as well.

"You know, that whole search for 'what do I do?' Come on, you've had to have gone through it, too. I still don't know what I'm going to do with my life! Sometimes, I think it's crazy that the others know but... it must be nice, to have a plan." He chuckled, shrugging, but Draco knew it was a topic that still weighed on Jake.

"More then likely, especially if I'm learning to take care of him. He's going to excel at causing trouble." Draco replied with a laugh.

"Well that is kind of why I'm here," Draco pointed out in a light tone. Career wise I figured out, but everything else still learning.

"Poor kid, sounds like no matter what, he's going to be a fantastic trouble-maker in life." He rolled along with the joke, a hop in his step despite his long night.

He looked back to Draco with those words and gave a softer smile, reaching down and briefly squeezing the other's hand. "Don't worry, Dragon. You're going to figure it out. It sounds like you've got some great family here, you've got your chance to be free over in America if you want. You'll make it."

"You'll make it to," Draco replied. If anyone but Jake called him Dragon he probably would have told them to knock it off. It fit for Jake to use that silly nickname and he was okay with it.

"People figure out things differently. It only took me till now to realize I didn't want to be that person everyone believed me to be and that I didn't want to be like my parents."

"I will," Jake did sound sure about that, giving a proud smirk before it faded into his normal smile again. "It's just going to take time. I kind of like the idea of journalism. I told my sister about it - she'll wake up to the email in a few hours over in the States."

He leaned in closer to Draco, his voice soft but serious. "It means you've grown up, figuring that out, you know? ...You're becoming your own person. That's important. You're going to do it, and find your own way. I know it."

"I'm glad to hear that!" Draco replied excited to learn that his suggestion had interested Jake enough to tell his sister. He smiled, grateful for the encouragement.

"So what else should I expect with camping?" He asked changing it into a less serious discussion. "I think my relatives would find it amusing at the very idea of me attempting such a thing."

"Drinking?" Jake piped up cheerfully before laughing. "Usually Ed brings a case or two. I dunno if that's your thing though." He peered over with a touch of concern, realizing it could get the other to back off. They were legal in England for it, if just barely.

"Your relatives are going to be okay with it though, right?"

"They won't mind. Like I said they would be more amused that I'm trying camping at all." Draco replied in an amused tone. "You know spoiled rich kid out in the middle of no where dealing with nothing but the wilderness.

As for drinking... I tend to drink more wine then anything, but I wouldn't say no to what Ed chooses to bring."

He was used to wine from the dinners with his parents. He had various liquor with his friends, but it was also all wizard drinks which were different. He wondered how different they were.

"Spoiled rich kid who's proven himself resourceful but-- wait who am I kidding, he's going to get eaten by a bear." It was pure joke, his grin unable to hide his faux-serious tone.

Wine. Sometimes Draco really did live up to the rich kid stereotype! "No wine, sorry." A more gentle tease. "Usually beer. Just something fun. We're not the types to get pissed, but maybe just a little." They were legal so who cared if they got a bit pissed out in the middle of no where? Not like they would get yelled at for being drunk.

That earned a chuckle even if it was at his expense. His only experience with being out in the woods was following their Game Keeper out in the Dark Forest due to a detention he had earned. That had been a crazy night that he did his best to forget.

"Alright, I think I can deal with just beer," Draco replied in a teasing tone. He wasn't sure if he was going to loose control of himself or not. He wasn't sure what he would say and might make a mistake of saying stuff he shouldn't. Not to mention it was more fun watching everyone around him get trashed and being the only one to remember what happened the night before.

"Good because I don't want to have to hold the rich kid's hair back while he loses his dinner." Jake stepped to nudge their shoulders together before he laughed. "I won't let you get that bad. Besides we usually just do the usual. Tell stupid stories, maybe play truth or dare. That usually ends with even better stories to tell."

"I'll hold you to that," Draco replied not that he ever really lost control like that. He did once and that was shortly after Pansy had left him because of how disgraceful his family had become. And how he had rapidly lost everyone he knew. "Always fun. My friends and I used to do that a lot. There were some interesting stores."

"Lucy can be a real perv so be careful, and Ed might not look it but he's shrewd." Spoken with clear affection for his friends. Then suddenly he turned off the street and towards a building.

"I'll warn you- I didn't decorate." He laughed as he held open the door to the foyer. Not the best or worst of an apartment building really. Though the elevator was totally ignored for just going up a flight to the second floor, then he unlocked a door down the hall. "Home sweet home."

Clearly more of a female touch to the place, but it was clean and had some of Jake's touch as well. His stuff was a bit all over the joint, and there were dishes in the sink. Not exactly clean but not a pigsty. "Uh, cleaning or lack there of is my fault though."

Draco raised an eyebrow a little surprised by the comments about Jake's friends. He had a lot to learn. "Probably nothing I've heard before. My group could get a crude when left alone." He then followed Jake up the one flight of stairs.

"Nice place you have. Don't worry about it my room's usually a distaster." Draco comented as he curiously looked around the flat. It was very different from the place Ed lived at. He noted all the various touches and did note how bland the place was. "Where's Lucky?"

Crude. The term made him laugh. He went to answer about Lucky when the barking from nearby would give a clue. So he walked around a corner and there, behind a tall baby gate, was Lucky, wriggling and looking so happy to see his master. Jake flipped open the gate and Lucky wriggled more with a wagging tail, licked Jake's hand, before coming around the corner and spotting Draco. A momentary pause, then he came over and sat there, all wriggling puppy like, looking up at Draco.

"He's got a bit of a chewing problem, so yeah, he has to stay in the kitchen during work." It had a big dog bed, bowls, toys, and the like.
