"Okay bad thought, sorry mate." Next topic. "So what happens if those goons show up again? I know what they are now but... not about to drag you down if hell breaks loose." He didn't like the notion he couldn't protect Draco. A fist fight, sure. Not... this.
"You run when I say to run and you go get the Lupins. Hopefully they're home if something like that were to happen. I will do what I can to protect you.
The thing that concerns me the most is if they start go out of their way to cause you trouble. Your police laws won't work and I don't know how helpful my people will be because of your association with me." Draco frowned as he tried to figure out some kind of back up plans.
Jake thought about it, then started holding up fingers. "First things first, I need to meet your relatives. The Lupins. That way if something goes wrong, someone knows I'm not insane. If your family is the issue, I go through the Lupins unless everyone hates them, too? Then the association doesn't happen. And I can lie well if I have to. I just got wrangled into this mess by these idiots who decided to get me involved. Which is mostly true, anyway. ...Long as you're okay, Dragon. That's your world and I don't want it any more messed up. Though I'd like whatever way we decide to get them in as much trouble as possible."
"Yeah, I want you to meet them before the camping trip. They're accepted in the community so you shouldn't have an issue there. Plus, their job is to protect both communities from people like my old gang. They should also accept you easier then my family.
I would prefer they get locked up. They lied to not get on trouble." Draco replied still not thrilled by them being free.
"Lied to... Oh. Oh they were..." His eyes went wide for a moment as a wave of fear passed through him. Death Eaters then, right? People who hated Muggles, loved killing. ...Not all of hem, he corrected himself. Still. "If more of your people come, I'll tell them the truth. These guys just started the mess in front of me. That's illegal, right?"
Draco reached over and grabbed Jake's hand to comfort him sensing his fear. His explaination also wouldn't help.
"I would still becareful. Even though they are protecting you they would place strong memory charms to make you forget what happened and our world all together. It's part of a necessary precaution. The Lupins wouldn't do that...at least I hope not. I'm hoping if they know you're with me they won't.
What they are doing is illegal, but me telling you everything is illegal too."
Oh. Jake breathed out slowly and rubbed his brow, then nodded a little. Memory charms - he could take a healthy guess on those. "So we start with what the Lupins deem to do." He hesitated, then said quietly, "...even if they make me forget, mate, don't... don't get upset. Or angry. Okay? Best time of my life so far."
There was a moment where Draco avoided looking at Jake as he struggled to keep his emotions in check. He didn't want Jake to forget any of this not after what had been said and done. Jake was so willing to accept everything-- the good and the bad.
"I'm not going to loose you in any of this," Draco replied his voice quivering slightly. "We will continue to do what we planned and hope nothing bad will happen."
"I don't want that to happen," Jake said quietly, his hand coming out to squeeze Draco's tightly. He hated feeling like he upset any of his friends, Draco most of all. He didn't care what it all meant, what it was going to lead to. He'd fallen for the blond before he knew about all of this crap, and so he wasn't going to let that change his opinion.
"All I ask is... and I don't count the stuff you legally couldn't tell me, okay? ... don't lie to me. About anything. About how you're feeling, what pisses you off or you want more of- whatever. Just don't lie to me about that, and whatever comes? We'll make it work."
Draco looked up when he felt Jake squeeze his hand.
"I won't lie to you. I don't have to now," he replied and squuezed Jake's hand in return. "Just promise to be honest in return. Let me know if it gets too much...of anything. I want to make this work. You came into my life and managed to turn everything I know upside down. And I'm glad you did."
Jake's smile was so bright in that moment, despite everything that had completely filled his head with so much to learn, so much confusion, because that statement pushed it back and gave him something more like hope. "Glad I could come into your life and mess the place up a little." The teasing was with genuine warmth. "Promise, I'll let you know."
He tilted his head back, thinking, before he added, "so we've got a game plan, then. Meet your relatives, deal with the arseholes if they show back up, go camping this weekend, London next weekend and visit my grandmother, learn more about your world and teach you how to Skype in the process." He laughed quietly. "Quite a two weeks, mm?"
Smiling in return, Draco nodded. "I like that it's pretty busy it's been a long time since I've had such a hectic schedule. I spent too long being cooped up in the house with just my folks. I didn't realize how alienated I was till I came to live with the Lupins. Eventually, you'll get to meet my folks."
He would have to figure out things for Jake to learn as well. He wanted to show him more of his world, but it was difficult with the fact that Jake legally shouldn't know any of this. Taking him into the world wouldn't go well at all at this point.
It wasn't as if people would know he was a Muggle right off the bat or anything, and technically Squibs could just as easily know about their world as a wizard. An easy lie even if a bit of an insulting one.
"I want to, don't get me wrong, but I'm a little nervous about meeting your parents. Just seems like a whole lot is riding on that meeting." He rubbed the back of his neck.
Draco would figure out something. He lied before he would now if it was for Jake. Briefly he left the table to go poor some more tea, finding his mug already empty and offered to fill Jake's as well.
He gave a nod of understanding. "That's why we're saving that for later. I wish it weren't so difficult. They are trying to change... It's very subtle, so I see some hope for them. I don't think most people would view it as change...but not many people really know what my parents are like. For now, we'll just enjoy the plans we got going."
"Thank you," he said quietly for more tea, nodding as he listened. Sometimes, the only change that could be seen could be visible from someone who knew them well. "...Any sign of change is a good one, even if it's a small change. I'd give anything to see my parents change." He gave a small smile.
"I want to think they will change in time. Sometimes it make take something drastic for them to realize their error. Or they might just realize on their own. Although....I think later that you should at least write to them. Give them some kind of update. Not one of those emails either... a hand written one. It shows more. Even if they may not respond."
Draco replied in a soft tone knowing it was a hard topic for Jake. "Pride and ignorance can be a deadly combination."
"...I don't know," Jake said quietly, looking to Draco before sighing as his eyes closed again. "I don't know if I'd be able to take when I only get silence in return. They know where I am, and they don't even ask Jenn about me. I think they're glad I'm not there to embarrass them by being a fag." A quiet snort, but he forced a smile to his lips. "Come on, better topics than this, okay?"
Draco got up and placed his hands on Jake's shoulders forcing him to look up at the wizard. "Stop calling yourself that. Who you like doesn't make you any different anyone else. You're still you. I don't want to hear you say that in reference to yourself again, okay?" He spoke in a firm tone, one he rarely used.
"We'll eventually figure out something. Did you want to introduce me to your sister today?"
Jake's brows went up at that sudden seriousness in Draco, looking up with surprise in confusion before a small smile returned. "Sorry, Dragon. Just heard it too much from them in the past." He reached up with both hands to pull Draco into a kiss.
"Right, come on, let me show you off to Jenn. She should be up and about." He stood up, might have patted Draco's backside before he dashed to the bedroom, coming back with his laptop and putting it in front of Draco on the table.
"MacBook. Macs are a kind of computer- the white Apple is their logo." Tapping it on the back, but he nudged it a little. "Open her up."
Draco wore a confused look as Jake made an attempt to explain things. He tentatively prodded the computer with his wand before he placed it on the table.
He glanced back at Jake with a skeptical look. "Are you sure you want to trust me with your computer?" He asked. He really didn't want to break it or mess it up.
Jake couldn't help but chuckle at the prod. "It's aluminum, I don't think you'll hurt it." He reached down and opened it up, tucking his chair closer. "Basics - on button." He pushed it, watching the screen light up out of sleep. "Login screen. Keeps your computer protected from just anyone using it. See this little blinking line? Wherever that is, you'll type." Pointing down to the keyboard.
"First thing first, try typing 'luckyisadog'. No laughing at my password."
Draco ended up chuckling at the password despite Jake saying not to. He did understand needing a password since their rooms at Hogwarts all had passwords. Hesitantly he pecked away at the password being careful he hit the right one and not too much. It was strange and awkard and when he finished he looked up at Jake for the next instructions.
He was a bright student, but this was foreign for him. It was going to take a while.
Jake gave a light whap to Draco's shoulder for the chuckle, but chuckled himself. "Alright, hit enter- this key here. Good. See, now it'll let you into the computer properly. All these little pictures are icons- they open up things you can do on the computer." The background was Jake, Lucky, and a girl leaning on him that didn't look anything like him.
He tapped the girl. "That's Jenn, by the way. She's five years older than me."
"Oh...I had expected maybe a year or two older. I didn't think there was that much of an age gap," Draco admitted surprised by the information as he studied the picture. He could tell how close the two were, the picture spoke volumes to one who didn't know them to well. "Granted-- it's pretty typical in our community. Sometimes there are larger age gaps between siblings."
Then Draco focused more on the icons, Jake was trying to explain. He felt they all looked the same to him. "Which one am I looking for?" he asked.
"When my mum had Jenn, they still wanted another child so badly, but Jenn was... not an easy pregnancy. She almost died giving birth to her, so they decided after a while that they would adopt, instead, and that's how I came to be with them." He gave a small smile at that.
He peered curiously for a moment. "Why is that typical with you? The age gap?"
He reached out and took Draco's hand, folding his fingers in except for his index finger, then put it lightly on the trackpad. "Try moving your finger around, this little arrow -" pointed it out, "will follow you. Try moving it over to the icon of the blue S."
